Arrival at Keflavik airport; after all the partecipants have arrived, we will move to the Reykjanes area to catch the sunset; in case it will be too late for sunset, we will go directly to the hotel to have a warm shower, have dinner and… If the weather forecasts are good, we’ll go out again to have a first meeting with lady aurora (or at least, to hope so)!
We will wake up early to photograph sunrise on the Reykjanes peninsula; just after the photo session at dawn, we will move towards northeast, to the famous Golden Circle! Here we are going to spend the day shooting the famous Gullfoss and the smaller Oxarafoss, two waterfalls, Geysir, a powerful geyser and we will have a little walk in the wilderness looking for the most “intimate” Bruarfoss, a gem of these places, famous for its glacial waters. The night we will stay in that area, and of course in case of favorable forecasts after dinner we will return again to hunt for the green dancer!
Again, we are awake before dawn to photograph the magnificent Golden Circle locations: once we finish our morning session, we move south to see the great waterfalls that have made this island so famous! Before reaching these well-known locations, however, roads permitting we will take a detour to visit another less famous gem of that region: the magnificent Haifoss, the second highest waterfall in Iceland! We will stay along the south coast, and after dinner as always, weather permitting, we will come back to photograph the Northern Lights!
As always, we go out early to photograph the sunrise, this time at the Seljalandfoss waterfall; as soon as the session is over, we will head further south to touch the southernmost point of the island, the village of Vik i Myrdal! Here the things to photograph are certainly not lacking, from the peninsula of Dyrholaey with its impressive cliffs to the stacks of the beach of Reynisfjara, not to mention the famous airplane DC-3 wrecked on the beach of Solheimasandur .. Shortly, I think you got it, it’s going to be one hell of a day! We will stay in that area and in the evening as usual we will be looking up in the sky hoping to catch the green lady.
After a beautiful morning session on the black beaches of Vik, we head straight for what is, in my personal opinion, the most beautiful place of the country, the famous lagoon of Jokulsarlon! Along the way we will also stop at the Skaftafell National Park: this is the “hide” of the Svartifoss, waterfall known for its basaltic columns and the Svinafellsjokull, one of the most accessible Vatnajokull glacier tongues. After these stops, we will enjoy the sunset on the spectacular glacial lagoon, photographing the icebergs that detach from the glacier and slowly reach the sea.
Today we will enjoy the sun rise in a unique place in the world: the beach of Breidamerkursandur, called by most “Ice Beach” just because on it you can find all the icebergs that, after traveling all the way through the lagoon, are stopping there waiting to “die” at the mercy of the waves. Immediately after the morning session, we will catapult ourselves into another universe, entering in a fantastic ice cave: exactly, you got it right, we will do a tour to explore these caves, environments that do not even seem to belong to this Earth! After the tour, we will remain in the lagoon area to photograph once again the sunset between the ice beach and the Jokulsarlon. Yes, we will have two nights available to be able to photograph the aurora borealis above the ice lagoon, an experience that alone is worth the whole trip!
This morning we will catch the sunrise on the bay of Stokksnes, from where rises the mountain range of the Vestrahorn, possibly one of the most photogenic mountains on Earth! As soon as the session is over, we get ready for the great “crossing” of the east coast of the island to arrive in the area of the great northern waterfalls at sunset! A beautiful journey of about 400km between fjords, mountains and incredible views. For the sunset we will be above the roaring Dettifoss or near the mystical Godafoss, depending on the weather conditions. Conditions permitting, in the evening we will go out again to see the lights dancing over this beautiful waterfall!
After enjoying dawn at the majestic Godafoss, we will complete the tour of the island, with another crossing that will take us to the Snaefellsnes peninsula in the western part of the country; these last two days will be more intense, considering that we will travel several kilometers, but you will see by yourselves that it will be absolutely worth it. The peninsula of Snaefellsnes is full of incredible locations, starting from the famous Kirkjufell to get to the less known (but no less beautiful!) Londrangar and Arnarstapi. After dinner we won’t miss the opportunity to photograph the aurora borealis above these locations, weather permitting!
After a couple of quite intense days, we will dedicate this day to the discovery of the peninsula in which we arrived yesterday, visiting its cliffs, its lava fields and some unique locations such as the black church of Budir. In the evening we will always stay in that area and, possibly a bit more rested, we will try to chase the lights of the north!
After a sunrise on the Snaefellsnes peninsula we are going to return to Reykjavik where we will visit the “Capital of the North” during the afternoon, taking some photos of the main attractions of the city. In the evening we will stay in the city and we will prepare to the return trip back home on the next day.
Time to say goodbye, unfortunately! It’s time to leave the island where (I’m sure!) You will leave your heart and return back home. During the day the participants will be taken to the airport to catch their return flights.
